A message from the Managing Director
The company was formed in May 1978. I joined the company in February 1982 as ‘Contracts Director’ and became a third shareholder.
After being awarded the company’s first contract from Alfred McAlpine (Ramada Park Hall Hotel in Wolverhampton) and further successful contracts, we continued to win orders from Tarmac Major Projects – all of which were completed successfully and on programme.
In 1988, I purchased the remaining company shares from my fellow directors and changed the company’s name to D. S. Matthews Contracting Services Limited.
One of the first projects undertaken as D. S. Matthews Contracting Services, was for ARC Construction Limited at Wolverhampton Law Courts, which ran alongside a large contract for Tarmac Major Projects at Bromley Town Centre.
In 1988, the company moved from its base in Wellington, Telford to better suited premises at Fallings Park Industrial Estate, Wolverhampton – which was the company’s main office for twenty-five years. During this time, the company continued to work for Telford Development Corporation undertaking boiler changes and central heating contracts.
Following this, the company continued to grow by carrying out large projects for Alfred McAlpine at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton and for Birse Construction at Macron Stadium (formerly Reebok Stadium) in Horwich.
D. S. Matthews Contracting Services have personnel who specialise in hospital contracts and who continue to work with several large contractors carrying out plumbing works, design and build projects, traditional bill of quantities and Joint Contracts Tribunals.
The company was also involved with Private Finance Initiative contracts at Dartford Hospital Project for Carillion and the Heart and Lung Centre at New Cross Hospital for Taylor Woodrow.
Our team have 35 years’ experience, and we continue to trade from our current address in Wolverhampton. With recent improvement in the construction industry, this is good news for our business and look forward to a bright future.
Mr D. S. Matthews MCIPHE RP
